Comparing the last two years’ divorce files, the study finds that the mentions of “facebook” has increased by 13%.

While the study speculates that facebook would be the place where people find out about their spouses’ misteps, I can see two competing explanations:

1. Facebook is a powerful medium for the world of any, which tends to make all of us a little less happy with what we have. Seeing other people’s updates about first dates, engagements, just married etc. could make anyone wanna start all over and join the fun.
2. With facebook weddings becoming a trend, wouldn’t be only natural that people would opt for facebook divorces, too? Maybe the mention of facebook in the divorce file is not a state of cause, but a wish: “Can we please have the divorce settled on facebook?”

More ideas, anyone?

And I’m sure you haven’t missed it. It’s reported everywhere: The evolution, or rather abysmal descent, of the facebook stock price since its introduction. Readers of the book recognize it as a perfect rendition of the nextopia demand curve.

Nextopia took their money and now they want their money back. Maybe, when things come around, it’s a good thing that the wish I made in the earlier post that I had taken a patent on nextopia, didn’t come true…

What’s next? Trumping facebook’s IPO..?

Today is the IPO of Facebook, that is, anyone can buy stock in the company. Being the next big thing in finance, and even the next big thing for the rest of us who don’t care that much for finance but are living our lives by the next status update, speculations and expectations have of course run wild.  

Like this very concrete (or actually, the sheer size of the figures would seem bizarrely abstract to anyone) case of nextopia: When a couple of thousand people estimate what the end-of-day value of the Facebook stock will be, it averages:

136. Billion. Dollars.

The viddies are piling up. Among the most popular are 15 second renditions of songs. I love it. We’ll call them minisongs, right?

Makes sense, then, that Hemnet recently announced that they’ll launch a home-seeker therapy service.

Which should make at least 62 percent of the Swedish population happy, the equivalent of the number of people that a new survey found on any given day are dreaming about or planning their next apartment or house.

Or the 75 percent of Swedes who discuss home renovations and projects at any given dinner.

After all, we live in a time of warpolitics. I’ve written about it here before, how politics have warped in the last few years, so that monthly, or even weekly, opinion polls impact more on political actions and government, than the actual elections. In warpolitics, four years is a life-time, enough for the most popular US president ever (guess who…) to witness a historical drop in approval ratings, enough for any issue to go from hot to dead-cold to hot again, enough for any political party to change their views back and forth and back again.

In the age of warpolitics, four-year mandates seem insanely long, and in the world of any, where anyone can make their voice heard, political representatives seem pretty outdated.

First off, the next soundtrack. Next, same-sex marriages.

Though I hope this is indeed an earnest concern, the timing is interesting. Obama drops the bomb (because, in the US, that it is) just as his presidential term is about to end – and, more importantly, a next one (which he hopes to inhabit) is becoming very salient.

Obama’s statement that he’ll back same-sex marriages immediately spiked attention, exploding activity on facebook and twitter centering around what will happen if he’s president after the next election. Because, of course, by now it’s too late to do anything about same-sex marriages during the present term…
